i bought a $200 VGC from Staples split b/t my 2 Amex’s and never received the confirmation emails…..just came here to read the comments to see if others were experiencing the same thing and realized the post said Staples.com
Hi Whitney, it sounds like you went to a Staples Store and did a split payment. Unfortunately, this offer only works at Staples.com.
How to you get around the shipping?
Shipping is free for Visa Gift Cards, but you still pay the $6.95 activation fee. Staples.com does sell many eGift Cards for many retailers, like Southwest Airlines. All eGift Cards come with free shipping.
Staples – Physical and electronic gift card purchases are not included.
Just don’t tell American Express ;)
99% of the time, if a charge goes through the merchant, American Express will pay out the statement credit.

It says gift cards excluded but still worked on visa?
I believe it will work on Visa Gift Card purchases, unless American Express starts to block all $206.95 purchases from earning $25 statement credit. We will have to wait and see what happens.
Out of our 5 cards, this offer appeared only on the Blue Cash.

my wife still didn’t get the $50 off $200 zappos purchase credit even though she received confirmation of the purchase. it has been2 weeks now.

You can call American Express and ask them to manually add the $50 statement credit to your credit card. Good luck!
I know people have been getting the “thank you for using your card” messages but I have not seen where anyone actually RECEIVED the credit!! Little nervous to move forward on this one!
Let us know once Am Ex has posted your credit. I was going to buy a card and also something else to pick up at the store so my amount charged wouldn’t look just like a gift card…but I will wait and see if people actually receive their credits!!
Since today is Friday, the charge might not post until Saturday or Sunday to my AMEX credit card. The statement credit usually posts 2-3 days after that initial charge posts to my credit card. Since this offer will be around for a few weeks, waiting is not the worst thing to do right now.
Wow… Amex must like me today. I had it on 8 of 8 cards between me and my wife. 2 of them were authorized user cards. Grant, can you confirm that if I’ve added the offer to both the primary card and the authorized user card, that I can effectively get the bonus twice on that card (assuming I make two different $100 purchases – one with the primary and the other with the AU)?
Congrats, someone at American Express must really like you today. Since authorized user cards have different credit card numbers, the offer should be valid on both cards.

I bought a $200 Visa Gift Cards and a $100 Southwest Airlines eGift Card, so I will let you know as soon as I can if the statement credits post for those purchases.Grant why did you buy $200 GC instead of a $100 GC? Are you able to split payment b/t 2 cards online like you can in store?
The $200 VGCs are a better deal than the $100 VGCs when you factor in the statement credit and activation fees.
Now that, its 12th, Grant, do you know if you got the statement credit yet? I have got it on 9 cards including my wife’s, so dont exactly know what to do if Gift cards are not working. !!!

I made a purchase of 206.95 VGC on 1/9 but it is still not posted in my Amex card. And of course, no 25 statement credit……
The purchase took about a week to post to my AMEX account. I believe the charge is pending until Staples actually ships/processes the order. The statement credit posted 2 days later in both cases.
Grant – I was successful with this offer – thanks for the tip! Now how can I best turn the gift card back into cash? Serve? PayPal? Others? I am sure you have written about this, so if possible, maybe just post a link?
There are many ways to liquidate the gift cards, any method will work. Do you have a Redbird, Bluebird, or Serve Card? If so, you can set a PIN and unload the card at Walmart or Target.
I have the Serve card – but haven’t ventured into Walmart yet. Maybe tomorrow! Thanks.

Now my question is this: can I load only visa gift cards like that from Staples to Serve, or can I load other types of gift cards, such as those from retailers?
You can only load certain Visa and MasterCard gift cards to Serve. No store retail cards are accepted.
