Random News: Chime Card Walmart Deal, Evolve Money Backpedals on Discover Credit Cards, Visa Savings Edge Breaks Up with Staples, and Award Wallet App Updates

Good afternoon everyone, here are some old and new stories to share.  First off, Chime Card’s 25 Days of Chime has a Walmart deal today.  Spend $50 or more at Walmart or Walmart.com and get a $5 statement credit.  This deal is only for today and there is a limited number of offers remaining.  If you are new to Chime, please read this post.

In old and still surprising news, Evolve Money has backpedaled slightly from their November 6 announcement (link) regarding using Discover credit cards to pay all bills.  According to their email that was sent out on December 18, you can no longer use your Discover credit card to pay certain bills (mortgage payments, car payments, 529 savings accounts, retail store cards, and student loans).  Are there any other bills worth paying besides my $20 water bill now?

It will be interesting to see if Visa and MasterCard will have the same restrictions when they are added to Evolve Money next month.  We will see…

In sadder news, Visa Savings Edge sent out an email yesterday alerting all members that their partnership with Staples would end on December 31, 2014 and would not continue into 2015.  I loved earning 1% cash back on all my Staples (err gift card) purchases.  I hope this situation is similar to Plink (not because Plink went bankrupt), but after Staples was dropped, they added Office Depot and Office Max to fill the office supply void.  I don’t have any info to say that this will happen, but I hope it does.  To learn more about Visa Savings Edge, please read this post.

Last but not least, I was told that Award Wallet has updated their iOS and Android app.  I like the new, cleaner user interface (UI for those in the tech world) and the faster account updating.  If you have the Award Wallet app, update and enjoy the new app.  If you do not have the Award Wallet app, here is the iOS link and here is the Android link.  If you are brand new to Award Wallet, you can learn more here and sign up for a free account here.

P.S. Last night, I was at my friend’s house and she had just got a new French Bulldog puppy.  I tweeted this photo out last night and said that I was just like The Points Guy now :)

That email from VSE was a punch to the gut. Hopefully they partner up with OM/OD. Sure, there are the various rebate offers but with the HH going to every store and cleaning out the racks they can sometime be hard to take advantage of.

That is one ugly dog. Do people really care about Chime? It seems like a ton of work for little reward; Limited number of redemptions, have to have $ on the card, have to use the card, spending requirements, etc. How does someone have time for these tiny chime rewards?

I agree that not every Chime deal is worth it. Just pick and choose the deals that fit with your normal shopping behavior. All the small deals add up to big savings over time.

Quick Thought, it seems really odd of Evolve adding VR support in January, if VR is going away in April as Amex said. I wonder if something more is going on here.
