AMEX Offers: Office Depot / Office Max Update #2, Columbia, Montblanc, and 6 Other Offers

Good morning everyone, if I had a dollar for every AMEX Offer I talked about, I would be a very rich man (call me American Express!).  On Monday morning, I talked about the Office Depot / Office Max promo (link) and how I used 6 AMEX cards to purchase 2 $200 Visa Gift Cards (link).

Office Depot Office Max AMEX Offer

This morning, I checked my American Express account and saw all the charges and statement credits post to all 6 of my AMEX cards.  Therefore, you will earn cash back when purchasing gift cards in-store and you can split the purchase amount across multiple AMEX cards.

I checked all my AMEX cards for new AMEX Offers and spotted these new offers.  Granted, they are nothing to write home about, but you might be able to use some of these offers:

Grant – did you synch your AMEX card(s) with Twitter to stimulate the OfficeMax $10 rebate offers? I only got two of those $10 offers across my 9 family-managed AMEX cards.

BTW, since you asked, for Shop SmaIl BIz Saturday, I registered and will attempt to run 25 AMEX cards through local retailers! Some are Bluebirds, some are Auth User accts. Has anyone beat this number of cards?

I personally don’t use AMEX Sync (Twitter). I only have 1 Twitter account and don’t want to create another just for these offers. I usually have a few offers appear across my AMEX cards.

Why don’t you want to create another twitter account? It just takes a few minutes. I set up twitter accounts for all my amex cards, then use seth’s tool to sign me up for all the amex offers automatically. It took just a few minutes to set up and now everything happens automatically.

For the record, I have 12 Amex cards. I’m bummed my Amex for Target cards aren’t eligible.

Good post Grant I wasn’t sure what to do with my office max offers! For the record above I have 55 cards registered between 4 family members all being AU’s on each others card. Looking at $1600 in gift cards around my town next Saturday!

Smay, you are insane! 55 cards? Go for it! How many stores will you visit to spread out the spending? What is the max # of CC swipes you are comfortable with at one store?

I have a wine store that I will do about $300 – $400 depending upon how busy they are. I will ask for 3 or 4 separate $100 gift cards and split the tender between 10 cards each time. Then $200+ in gift cards in each of 5 restaurants. Last year I went early in the day to avoid crowds and it worked out well. I had 38 cards and no shops seemed to mind at all. I guess its worth it to them putting gift card sales in the register even with the bother of $10 swipes!

Thanks; good plan! So, they can do 10+ swipes to load one gift card?

I talked to one ski shop, and they were doubtful they could swipe more than 3-4 times to load one gift card. Any Ideas?

Don’t do more than $10 on each card. If you use the same card twice in the same store for the same amount you are risking fraud alert.
For the swipes, if its a paper gift cert they can write anything they want on it and then simply swipe your cards one at a time and have you sign each CC receipt. If its a gift card with a magnetic strip they may only be able to give you individual $10 cards depending on their I.T. Either way there should be no limit other than the discretion of the merchant which is why I go when they aren’t busy. If they seem suspicious just be honest with them about why you are doing different cards.

Was there any problem with some of those cards not being in your name? I know most people don’t look or ask, but with a transaction like that I would think it would increase the likelihood that they would ask. I guess with a being a spouse/child you’d be fine, but if it was another friend or family member who let you use a bluebird maybe it wouldn’t work.

When you request to add someone as an authorized user, they will get their own card with their own name, so this shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ll be going to places that I frequent so they should know my face but I will use ones with my name to start. Maybe slip in others as we go ;-). Almost all share my last name.

Yes, I would definitely recommend going very early in the morning so you can get in and out fast without annoying the cashiers or other customers :)

Went to OD today, and got turned down. Cashier told me it was cash only. I kind of laugh thinking maybe that’s why you guys have all those gift cards piling up on the rack. The whole store was literally dead! lol OD sells variable GC up to $500 with $4.95 fee per card. I then went to OM, the cashier happily split my payment with 5 AMEX cards. OM only have GC up to $200 with $6.95 fee per card. $36.10 in profit is not bad at all.

Grant, that’s cool. Do you know if we get cashback from purchases at GC Mall or Simon GCs w/ DISC this qtr? Have you tried that one?

Grant, my local OD is so bad (and unattractive to shop at) and they carry only some merchant GC’s and Visa variable load GC’s from the Vanilla flavor that I’ve never bought there before.
Are these OK to drain at WM ?

Thanks so much – glad I didn’t buy any of those impulsively !
Will head now to OfficeMax to check what they have to offer :)
