San Francisco Weekend Trip – Part 2: Hollywood Cafe Breakfast, SF Half Marathon, Lombard Street, and Sea Lions

This is part 2 of my short weekend trip to San Francisco.  Please check out Part 1: Cable Car Ride and Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf Hotel Review to see the first half of my trip report.  As I mentioned in part 1, our room was overlooking the Hollywood Cafe, a small family run restaurant with crowds always waiting outside.

On Sunday morning, we were looking for a place to get breakfast and Yelp told us the best place within walking distance was the Hollywood Cafe, how convenient…

I forgot to take pictures of the breakfast, but I did remember to take a picture of the sign hanging over the front door.

The breakfast menu has all the classics and the prices are really good for San Francisco.  I wish I would have taken pictures of the plates, because the serving sizes were huge.  I had the classic french toast, my mom had the Audrey Hepburn (2 pancakes and huge bowl of fruit), and my dad had an omelet with hash browns.  If you get a bowl of fruit, be prepared to eat a huge bowl of fruit with 10+ different types of fruit.

To work off some of our breakfast, we walked along the Fisherman’s Wharf shops and made our way to the finish line of the San Francisco Half Marathon.  This is probably the closest I will ever get to a marathon finish line #lazy

We walked up the hill and saw some beautiful shots of the Golden Gate Bridge and Fort Mason park nearby (see the runners in the background?).

Here is the view of the bay with Alcatraz in the background.  It was such a clear day by the bay.

Then we decided to walk/crawl up to Lombard Street and walk down the sidewalk adjacent to the windy road.

Then we made our way toward the Ferry Building and checked out some of the pedestrian docks on the bay.  This is Forbes Island and you need a reservation (and a boat) to get there for dinner.

Next to Forbes Island, you will see many sleepy sea lions laying on the floating docks.  If you watch long enough, you will see some of them walk over the others to get to the water.  It was fun watching the sea lions bark at each other.

For those adrenaline junkies, you can take a 30 minute ride on the Rocket Boat around the bay.  Unfortunately, they are in the off season starting November through April.

After I got home, I tried to map out all my walking on Sunday and I think 5.5 miles sounds about right, you can see the Google Map (link).  Bring your walking shoes if you come to San Francisco.

Thanks for sharing your travels to SF…I lived there 20 years ago and have fond memories of many of the places you visited. I’d recommend the Cable Car Museum on a future visit.

It’s not that big but the cable are driven from the museum, and that you get to see. You see old cable cars and learn all about how the whole system works. I love seeing the “behind the scenes” stuff!
