Chime Card Update: 3% Fee being Charged to PayPal Business Debit Cards and $200 Maximum Payment

D-Day Fee-Day is upon us.  As of right now, Chime has started charging a 3% fee for PayPal Business Debit Card loads.  I tested on the desktop and from the iPhone app and the result is the same.  I tried adding a credit card to Chime, but that didn’t work either.  Interesting note, there does not seem to be a $25 minimum payment amount, as was previously expected, but the $200 maximum payment limit is enforced.

Here is what the process looks like from the desktop:

Chime 3 Percent Fee

Any amount you enter will include the 3% fee on top of the amount you want to load to your Chime Card.

Chime Card Add Funds Fee

The fee amount is broken down on your transactions screen.

Chime Load Fee Applied

$30.00 PayPal balance before Chime Card reload…

$30 PayPal Balance

… $28.97 PayPal balance after Chime Card reload.

$28.97 PayPal Balance

PayPal transaction view shows Debit Card Signature Purchase (transaction will earn cash back).

Here is what the process looks like from the iPhone app:

Chime Card App Load Funds 3 Percent Fee

I like the straightforwardness of Chime, they are not hiding anything from the user.

Chime Card App 3 Percent Fee Breakdown

The transaction view also shows the breakdown of the fee.

This may be a bad time to mention this, but here are all the current Chime offers that are available.  Learn more about the Chime Card here.

Chime Offers 10-8-2014

Chime Card as a tool for MS is all but dead, unless you don’t mind paying 3% to unload your PayPal balance.  I still think some of their Chime offers are good deals, so it may be time to link your real debit card and take advantage of some of the deals above.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Good night everyone!

I use my PPBDC to fund my Serve Card. You can also use it as a debit card and withdraw funds via ATM or at Walmart to load Bluebird/Serve or buy money orders.

just a heads up for anyone doesn’t know this, i’m sure alot of ppl still have money left in Chimecard that they wanted to loaded into BB in Walmart. Long story short, i called the Chimecard representative regarding issue of loading money in walmart, the rep says Walmart has put a limit of $500 max per 24 hours period.

I see, thanks for the heads up KDY. I’ve been known to load $1,000 a time with my Chime Card at Walmart. Now since my Chime Card balance is at ~$500, I will make sure not to load more than that amount at one time.
