Weekend Trip to Cabo – Part 2: ATVs on the Beach, Boat Ride to El Arco, and Dinner at Cabo Wabo
Hola amigos! Welcome to part 2 (dos) of my trip report to Cabo. I wrote part 1 a few weeks ago (link) and finally had time/energy to write the second part. If you have never written a trip report before, you do not know how much time goes into these posts. With that said, here is what my brother and I did in Cabo besides swim in the pool at the Hilton Los Cabos and sip margaritas at the swim up bar.
My brother and I decided to do an ATV ride with Cactus ATV Tours (Trip Advisor). We got 2 single ATVs for a 2 hour ATV ride on the beach and through the desert for $130 each. Here I am wearing my TWG shirt and bandanna (I left my TWG bandanna in the hotel room…).
There are no speed limits in Cabo, same goes for ATVs…

There were 3 pretty parrots waiting for me back at the ATV ranch. i actually got to hold one, but I don’t have a picture of that #noparrotselfies.
On our way back to our hotel, we told the shuttle driver to drop us off near the harbor. There we went on a boat ride / snorkel trip out toward Cabo’s most famous arch, El Arco! The boat ride and snorkel rental was $41 per person.

And finally an El Arco selfie. Pretty rough waters when we went, glad we did not kayak or we might not have made it back in one piece.
Back on land, my brother and I walked a few blocks from the water to Cabo Wabo (Trip Advisor). This place is a very popular restaurant/bar for visitors and college students alike. There are 3 other Cabo Wabo restaurants in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and Lake Tahoe.
Nothing makes me happier than realizing the Corona beers are buy one get one free #BOGOscore!

On our way back to the hotel, we rode on the city bus ($3 per person each way) and passed by the MEGA supermarket, which I believe is the equivalent of Walmart in Mexico. Unfortunately I didn’t have my Serve Card with me on this trip ;)
P.S. I did pass by 2 Office Depot and 1 Office Max in Cabo…
Overall thoughts on Cabo? I was surprised how safe and tourist friendly I felt the entire time. I did not see any homeless people or beggars the entire time. Cabo was much safer than other places in Mexico I have been before. Transportation is very good, but not always on time. The Super Shuttle is about $20 per person each way to/from the airport and buses run frequently to/from town for $3 per person. My advice to future travelers, bring lots of US Dollars and don’t rely on you credit card for most transactions. Most places accept credit cards, but then they have to charge you tax, which is often 16-19% on most things. Therefore, credit card purchases cost 16-19% more than cash purchases. The US Dollar is accepted everywhere so don’t bother converting money to pesos.

Awesome report. Sounds like you had a great time. Just a quick spelling correction, since I’m a native Spanish speaker and also an editor and translator. The Arch in Spanish is actually written, “El Arco” (in other words, it’s a “c” not a “ch”). Also, the noun “noche” is femenine, so the adjective that goes with it also has to match gender, therefore it’s “Buenas noches.” Sorry for the grammar lesson. Never been to Cabo, but it sounds like a lot of fun. :)

Great that you didn’t see any “homeless people or beggars”. Not sure I define my trips by the presence of the destitute.
Good point Skip, I didn’t mean that homeless people and beggars influence my trip outlook but it is in stark contrast to my visit to Portland. Just thought it was worth sharing. Hope you liked the rest if the trip report and photos.

On our last trip to Mexico City we saw a group of homeless shooting up. It was actually pointed out by our guide. Gave a feeling of seeing the “real Mexico” although it did freak my girlfriend out a little bit to see it out in the open. We visited a couple of states while in Mexico and noticed most homeless were around the many churches we visited. One little girl stole our hearts. When you walked up to the entrance of the church she would place a heart sticker on you. My mom being a native of Mexico knew what this meant and gave her some money. My girlfriend and I had no money on us at the time and as we walked by the little girl she took back her stickers. I explained to my girlfriend whom had never traveled out of the US that this was her way of making money without asking for a handout. Traveling really opens your eyes to how lucky we are to have been born in the US.
Yes, you definitely get out of “the bubble” when you travel, makes you appreciate how well you have it. Thanks for sharing your memories of your recent trips to Mexico.
