Random News: $5 off $50 Chime Purchase at Office Depot, Plink & Monster Learning, RIP Evolve Money, and New AMEX Offers for Marissa Collections and J Crew

Here are today’s random new stories…

If you have a Chime Card, you should have received the following offer for $5 off a $50 purchase at Office Depot (just in time for Labor Day).  I recommend stocking up on a gift card to your favorite store or restaurant.  To learn more about the Chime Card, click here.

Chime Office Depot Offer

I received the following email from… Plink.  Plink hasn’t done anything exciting in months and I would be surprised if they are still around by January.

Monster Plink Email

Looking at their current list of partners is depressing.  I miss the good ol’ days of Staples and Office Depot Plink offers #freemoney.

Current Plink Offers 8-27-2014

In 6.0 magnitude earthquake news to the miles and points blogosphere, we had a major negative announcement from Evolve Money that they are now limiting bill payments to once per month.  According to the second paragraph, they are in the process of figuring out how to accept payments for larger expenses like mortgages/rent.  My guess, they will let you use your credit card to pay these bills but charge you a 2.75%+ fee to do so.  We will have to wait and see what happens next…

Evolve Monthly Limit Revised

Last but not least, 2 new AMEX Offers (neither of which excite me).  We will have to wait until after Labor Day for good offers to come out.

Other than discounts and savings, how is the Chime card used for MS? Can you unload funds from it at no cost?

I don’t want to give too much away, but you can use a PayPal Debit Card to load funds to the card and earn cash back in the process. Then you can unload funds at Walmart to a Bluebird/Serve Card. You can load $100 per day, so $3,000 per month. I earn 1.5% cash back with my PayPal Debit Card, so that is $45 pf cash back every month.

You will only earn cash back using the PPBDC loading online. You won’t earn cash back for loading in-store because it is a PIN-based transaction and the PPBDC only pays out for non PIN-based transactions.

Yesterday I was able to get $5 store credit(no min purchase required) from Office Depot through Chime.
Also, not sure how many data points there are about chime account suspensions so figure I’ll add mine.
My SO and I have had chime accounts for a couple months and I’ve been using them for MS. Opened up another one for a relative
using my address and all 3 accounts were subsequently suspended. Good news is I just had to e-mail a copy of ID and residency for each account
and they were all unsuspended quickly.

Interesting. I have a Chime Card and so does my dad and we have the same address (also same address on drivers license). I haven’t had any problems with either account. I load $100 per day to each card and subsequently liquidate the cards at Walmart. Glad you were able to restore access to your cards easily. What do you think triggered the suspension? Having too many cards with the same address?

Definitely having too many cards with the same address. Seems 3 or 4 is when they start getting suspicious. How much do you load a month on one account? I’ve only been doing $1,000/month but now that my accounts have been ‘cleared’ I’m thinking of ramping up my activity at least on one account. Loading $1,500 on serve w/isis plus Chime can max out my paypal business debit card limit.

I have 2 PPBDCs from the same PP account. I use both those cards to load 2 Serve Cards ($1,000/month) and load 2 Chime Cards ($100/day or $3,000/month).

Does adding a 2nd PPBDC double your monthly Paypal MyCash limit or are you adding the other 4k from a bank account? Either way it’s worth it and thanks because I never even thought about adding a 2nd card(Just ordered one)

If you second PPBDC matches the name if the other person’s Serve account, you should not have any problems. I load the additional funds from my bank account.

Reading thru your posts just made me realize a possible way to make evolve somewhat useful again… At least for any bill less than 1k. PPBDC + Chime + Evolve… Not sure if evolve will take chime though.. Something to try

I’ve heard success stories with Chime on Evolve Money. I loaded up my Go Bank Card and used that on Evolve. The big issue is the $999 limit per each bill payment. No way to get around that limit unfortunately.

Hmm… Why use evolve with gobank instead of paying bills directly with gobank? Isn’t that an extra step with no additional benefit? Unless there’s something that I’m missing…

Is Plink dead already? I signed up last week and it wont let me add my card, it keeps popping up a 500 server error message. Also it doesn’t look like they have any rewards in stock. I think I am too late to this money maker. :( Are there other Plink like sites out there?

They restock the gift cards every few weeks. The gift cards usually sell out fast, so act fast. Keep trying to add your credit card to Plink. If it still doesn’t work, send them an email and they should help.

Hey Grant.. do you see this message ” Note: As of Oct 8th, 2014 there will be up to a 3% transfer fee for this card.” when you transfer money from PPBDC to Chime?
