Which Credit Card

Barclays Sign Up Offers: $400 Barclaycard Arrival, 50,000 Lufthansa Miles, 35,000 Hawaiian Airlines Miles, and 40,000 US Airways Miles

Full Disclosure: I don’t personally have any Barclays credit cards.  I have applied for some credit cards in the past but have always been denied due to “too many recent credit inquires” – so it is not by choice (not my choice at least) that I do not have credit cards with Barclays.

It might be hard to believe, but I actually have credit card affiliate links (only from Barclays Bank though).  I hardly ever talk about credit card sign up bonuses, unless I am specifically applying for them during an app-o-rama (see March 2014 App-O-Rama and November 2013 App-O-Rama).

You can view and apply for a Barclays Credit Card on my credit card page.  With that said, here are some of the my favorite Barclays Credit Cards:

Barclaycard Arrival – 40,000 points ($400 Statement Credit) after spending $3,000 in 3 months (no annual fee the first year, then $89 a year after that)

Barclay Arrival Credit Card

Lufthansa Miles and More – 50,000 miles after spending $5,000 in 3 months ($79 annual fee, not waived the first year)

Miles can be used on several Star Alliance airlines including United Airlines.

LH Credit Card

Hawaiian Airlines – 35,000 miles after spending $1,000 in 3 months ($89 annual fee, not waived the first year)

Miles can be used on Hawaiian Airlines or one of their many partner airlines.

Hawaiian Airlines Credit Card

Here is the award chart for flights on Hawaiian Airlines (prices are for one way flights):

US Airways – 40,000 miles after your first purchase ($89 annual fee, not waived the first year)

Miles can be used on US Airways or on their *new* One World Alliance partners like American Airlines and British Airways.

US Airways Credit Card

Alternatively, there is a FlyerTalk thread with a link to a US Airways credit card offering 30,000 miles after the first purchase with no annual fee the first year and 10,000 bonus miles after the first year (10,000 anniversary bonus miles usually post before the annual fee is actually posted). In essence, you are forgoing 10,000 miles and saving $89, inversely, by paying the $89 annual fee, you are “buying” 10,000 miles for 0.89 cents per point.

Here are the terms and conditions of the offer at the bottom of the credit card application:

You can view and apply for a Barclays Credit Card on my credit card page.

If you do decide to apply for any of the cards list above, I greatly appreciate your support.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

I don’t understand why the Lufthansa card is not routinely promoted as one of the greatest card offers out there when it hits 50K miles. The domestic component alone is remarkable. It FIXES a domestic roundtrip on United at 25K miles and only 35K business. My wife, me, and my mother in-law all got this and should all be up around 70K miles by end of year. That’s SIX business class tix. A seattle to NY flight in biz on United is $5K. Seattle to Orlando biz is $5500.

I get that Lufthansa could change this, as United cratered their program, but at its current redemption, it hands down the best in the US for no-brainer longer haul high-end domestic. The Points Guy also wrote it up as being superior to United for international to Europe.

You’re right Mike. Both of my parents got this card last year and are sitting on ~57,000 miles. We have not made any plans to redeem for flights, but I should ask them what they want to do with the miles.

Something to pass along: Chase today told me that if you’re in the window/process of trying to spend your $5K to get your 50K Ink UR bonus, the bonus has been bumped to 60K automatically. As long as you entered May inside your 90 day window, if you hit the $5K by July 30th and within the window you were given, you’ll get 60K UR’s not 50K.

I got my Chase Ink Bold Visa Credit Card in mid March and already got my 50,000 Chase Ultimate Reward points. I’ll send them a secure message and see what they can do. Will report back soon.

Excellent review Grant. I plan to apply for the Lufthansa again, as soon as my recent approval for the Barclays Arrival has “cooled off” for a few weeks ;)

I will use your link when I apply!

Thank you Gaston, I really appreciate that. Congrats on being liked by Barclays, wish I could say the same. Have a great weekend!

I dislike Barclays because of their strict reconsideration department. It’s annoying that they tend to deny most people, even ones who have good credit. I don’t know how they expect to grow their business if Barclays is so strict about credit card approvals.

I agree which is why I have never been approved for a Barclays card. They hate people with a lot of credit inquiries and there is nothing that you can say or do to change their mind.

I’ve gotten my two and then been declined. Two does seem to be the limit.

I find US Bank to be the same way except worse. I think Grant had some trick for avoiding the inquiry issue.
